Xiao Ling, LMHC
Xiao believes there’s no single approach fits in everyone’s needs. Rather, she emphasizes the incorporation of different approaches including psychodynamic, relational, and CBT depending on the presenting problems, treatment goals, and cultural backgrounds of the individuals. She values the therapeutic alliance in treatment and approaches her clients in a warm, accepting, and supportive way. In addition, Xiao believes it is the therapeutic relationship itself facilitates the changing process of the individual.
Xiao earned her two bachelor’s degrees in Clinical Psychology and Child and Family Studies from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan and continued her studies at New York University where she earned her master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness. She completed her clinical training in the Outpatient Clinic and the PROS Program at the Hamilton-Madison House in NYC, where she has earned experiences specializing in depression, anxiety, chronic stress, and interpersonal issues through working with the highly diverse population there. Furthermore, she also took advantages of her language capabilities to provide bilingual services making mental health resources accessible to immigrants with limited language skills.
Given her training in both Taiwan and the US as well as her own experience as a minority in the US, Xiao has brought the unique experience of working with individuals from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. She understands that seeking psychotherapy can be challenging for many people, but she would love to accompany her clients throughout the whole journey.
