Dr. Tara Brennan
Tara Brennan, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist at Herald Square Psychology. Her approach to psychotherapy is integrated – dependent on each client’s goals and presenting problems. She has an active, collaborative approach to treatment. Dr. Brennan incorporates treatment interventions from multiple modalities, relying most heavily on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic approaches. She specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, adult survivors of early trauma, adult ADHD, multicultural issues, life transitions, and sleep difficulties.
Dr. Brennan completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health and an APA-approved clinical internship at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. Additionally, she trained at Beth Israel Medical Center, NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, NYU Child Study Center, Psychological Services Center at LIU-Brooklyn, and secondary schools. She worked on ADHD and trauma research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and her doctoral dissertation examined the interplay between emergent ethnic identities, cognitive developmental levels, and racial prejudice. She obtained her Ph.D. from Long Island University - Brooklyn Campus.
Dr. Brennan graduated from Bates College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. After college, she worked in Washington, DC as a press liaison in the United States Congress before moving to New York City where she worked in finance. After several years, she decided to pursue a career as a clinical psychologist which was more suited to her interests and personality.
