Stephanie Wu, Ed.M, MHC

Stephanie was born and raised in Hong Kong and straddles two distinct cultures in both her personal and professional life. She values the uniqueness of every client, and utilizes a client-centric approach to therapy that pays special attention to the impact of a client’s identity, culture, and upbringing on their daily experiences and concerns. Stephanie graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she earned her masters degrees (M.Ed and M.A.) in Mental Health Counseling. She completed her clinical training at Hamilton-Madison House’s outpatient mental health clinic, and worked at Dr. Cindy Huang’s lab at Teachers College to conduct research on evidence-based family interventions for minority communities.
As a multiculturally-informed individual with experiences in conducting clinical and research work in outpatient and community health settings, Stephanie has provided therapy services in both English and Cantonese with individuals and groups to address a wide range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, difficulties with life changes and transitions, work-related stress, interpersonal and relationship challenges, as well as self-esteem and identity issues. To provide a tailored approach to therapy, Stephanie integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities in session, such as CBT, mindfulness, Adlerian, and psychodynamic therapy— depending on the client’s presenting concerns, capacity for insight, and needs.
Stephanie’s passion for counseling stems from her belief in people’s ability to thrive under the right amount of support. She strives to work in a collaborative, authentic, and empathetic manner with clients from different walks of life not only to equip them with tools to better cope with their concerns, but to also empower and lead them to a deeper understanding of themselves.
