Carol Pauls, LMSW

Whether you are looking to therapy for help in overcoming difficult challenges and symptoms in your life or simply for self-exploration, therapy can be life changing. I am a hands-on active therapist who is not afraid to roll up my sleeves and get to work. I will seek to give you real, concrete takeaways in order to help jumpstart meaningful change. I work from a collaborative approach to build a unique relationship with each individual in an environment of safety and trust. Whether it is focusing on painful feelings, relationships, difficult life transitions, creative blocks, stress, or healing from challenging life experiences, my goal is to help you discover the obstacles that block positive growth while building on your strengths within a healing relationship.
I am a Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) and have over 20 years of experience providing individual, family, couples, and group therapy for multicultural clients in diverse clinical settings including: outpatient, inpatient, partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs, and crisis services. I have worked with clients’ with a wide range of diagnoses. I have specialized training in therapy for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, self-esteem issues, stress, addiction, trauma, major life transitions, and school and work related issues. I work from an integrative approach and utilize evidence-based treatments that best meet the individualized needs of the client. This often includes the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness based, and Psychodynamic Therapies.
I graduated from Sterling College with a Bachelors of Arts in Behavioral Science. I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Emporia State University and a Master’s in Social Work from New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. I directed a research program at New York State Psychiatric Institute called the Work and Cognitive Recovery Program providing therapy to help clients with severe mental illness meet goals in school and work. I also conducted research on memory and Quality of Life in clients with treatment resistant depression receiving ECT as well as mild cognitive impairment in older adults. I have worked as a social worker at several hospitals including New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell. I am committed to help you grow and develop skills that will enable you to overcome challenges and lead a life that is fulfilling.
